How To Care For Dental ImplantsCaring for Your Dental Implants
Although dental implants are not teeth, they look and function like natural teeth. With proper home and professional care, they can last for many years—even a lifetime.
Daily care and monitoring:
- Maintain proper home care habits:
- Brush twice daily.
- Floss daily.
- Use cleaning adjuncts, such as a WaterpikTM or other similar devices.
- Use antibacterial mouthwash.
- Avoid hard or sticky foods.
- If you were provided with a nightguard, wear it as directed.
- Schedule Dental Visits as Directed
- See your dentist twice a year (or as recommended) for cleanings and check-ups.
- Dental implants should have annual x-rays and periodontal probing, just like natural teeth.
- Return to our office for follow-up as recommended by your dentist.
- Contact us immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Pain, swelling, or gum bleeding.
- Changes to your bite or discomfort when biting or chewing.
- Looseness or mobility of the implant or restoration.
